Kia showroom experience
I was having a tire on my car repaired at a tire shop.I decided to walkaround the area, and ended-up walking into a Kia dealer. I was interested in getting a first hand look at the Soul, and possibly a test drive. I've always like the small size and utility of the Soul - replacement car for my wife. The salesperson was aggressive about discounts "today", would I purchase today if .... (aggressive, but still pleasent, so okay). I was upfront 6 months was a realistic purchase timeframe. Test drive was short and uneventful. The pricing summary from the salesperson was a shocking on how much they were charging for or trying to charge for.Kia 2010 Soul 2U with automaticBase: $19,795 (later changed to $19,495, much later)Freight: $1,650A/C Tax: $100Fuel Tax: $75PDI: $399Administration: $599Etching: $299+ applicable taxesThe last 3 lines floored me - $1,300 of extra charges! To his credit he did say, if you don't want to pay for anything, just let him know! Very early on, before the test drive he did say they could do a $2xxx discount today. (With those extra charges, no wonder he could discount $2,xxx.)We departed cordially, as I was not ready to buy and reasserted that.I could not help but think, a new/shy car buyer with little car buying experience could end-up paying $1,000+ over FULL price for the car.Is this normal behaviour at the dealerships now?
