Do the brakes suck that bad on a VW GTI?

I was reading alot of reviews on the MK6 VW GTI and pretty much all reviews seems to indicate that the car has pretty bad brakes. For example, in the back of Road and track, where they have the chart of stats, it lists the GTI coming in _*last*_ place in comparison to all cars tested (143 feet (60-0)). Are the brakes that bad that even SUVs out brake the GTI?
