Thumbs up Speeding ticket - ticket date or conviction date?

So I had a speeding ticket back in April 2011. I requested a court date and pleaded guilty to a reduced speed and fine in Jan 2012.I know speeding tickets stay on your insurance record for 3 years. My question is, do the 3 years start from the date I got the ticket (Apr 2011) or the conviction date (Jan 2012)?Thanks.
