las vegas car rentals ... where to pick up car

First time heading to Las Vegas........ Can someone gives me some insight how the car rental structures? I rented a car with "advantage" online which indicated "in-terminal counter". I would assume that I pick up my car at the terminal. A friend told me that I still have to take a shuttle to pick up my car........ How does it work? Where do I shuttle? Please help.......... thank you
