Switching a flight time...it costs a lot doesn't it?

I want to switch my flight for a day earlier. My travel agent wants $100 per ticket +$150 each ticket to switch + difference in pricing....so uh...the airline said that once I commence travel, they'll be able to switch my flight for me, but until then, my travel agency needs to do it.What the hell man... . This is going be a lot of money I have to throw at the airlines just to get the same flight a day earlier. Anyways, is there a cheap way of going about this?
